Slugs and snails love hostas. There are several poisons on the market to control slugs and snails. 
But there are also other options to control slugs on a more friendly way but they are not that effective as the poisons. 
One method is to choose hostas that are less attractive to slugs. Another method is to make use of other plants that are less attractive to slugs and snails.
When you plant hostas near one of them it helps to control slugs. 

Hosta’s zijn heel aantrekkelijk voor slakken. Er zijn verschillende middelen te koop die slakken bestrijden. Als u liever op een andere manier de hosta’s tegen slakken wilt beschermen dan kan dat bijvoorbeeld door bepaalde soorten. Hosta's te planten of door andere planten die minder aantrekkelijk zijn voor slakken naast de hosta’s te zetten zodat slakken niet graag in de buurt van de hosta’s komen.

Some plants are less attractive to slugs and snails than hosta’s because they have a structure or chemical substance that slugs and snails do not like.
