Hostas are easy growing plants.

Hostas can be planted at any time when the soil is workable and open. 
When you plant a hosta, dig a hole in the ground big enough for the roots to spread out. Place the hosta into the hole with the crown at soil level. After planting. After planting hostas need regular watering.

Most hostas are shady plants. Some of them need deep shade to remain a beautiful colour, like Hosta Big Daddy. Others can grow in the sun like: H. August Moon, H. Blue Umbrellas, H. Fortunei Aureomarginata, H. Fragant Gold, H. Invincible (morning sun), H. Royal standard and H. Sum and Substance.

Water: Most hostas, when they are planted on a shady place, need a normal amount of water (less evaporation than in the sun).
Hostas that are planted on sunny places need more water.

Hosta’s zijn makkelijke planten. Ze kunnen op ieder moment van het jaar geplant worden als de grond maar goed doorlaatbaar gemaakt is. Maak het gat groot genoeg zodat de wortels er uitgespreid in kunnen. Plaats de hosta in het gat precies zo diep als dat hij in de pot zat, of als hij niet uit een pot komt, zo dat de kroon ( het punt waar de bladeren uitkomen) net iets onder het onder het grond oppervlak zit.
Na het planten de hosta's regelmatig water geven.

De meeste hosta’s zijn schaduwplanten. Sommige hebben zelfs diepe schaduw nodig om hun mooie bladkleur te behouden, zoals bv. H. Big Daddy. Anderen kunnen in de zon staan: 

De meeste hosta’s hebben een normale hoeveelheid water nodig. Hosta’s op zonnige plaatsen verdampen meer, zeker de hosta’s met grote bladeren (bv. Sum and Substance).
